About Us
National Sales Network was
founded by a group of African-American sales and sales management
professionals in Newark, New Jersey, June 1992. The initial purpose and
objective was to develop a national organization that could meet the needs
of the African-American sales professional. Several well-established Black
professional organizations served as examples of how instrumental an
organization of this magnitude could be in providing networking
opportunities for sales professionals.
Our mission is to meet the
professional and developmental needs of the African – American Sales and
Sales Management professional by:
-
Becoming the organization
of choice for the African–American Sales professional.
-
Encouraging
African-Americans to pursue sales careers.
-
Empowering
African–Americans through community involvement and service.
-
Providing career and skill
development programs for sales professionals.
-
Providing a forum through
which sales professionals can network within their profession.
The Black MBA’s, Black
Accountants, Black Data Processors, Black Bankers and Black Engineers
served as prime examples. While there were local industry focused
organizations of African-American sales organizations in different parts
of the country, there was no single organization designed to meet the
needs of the African-American sales professional. The founders of National
Sales Network were determined to establish a national organization that
could serve the professional needs of the African-American sales
professionals regardless of industry, location or job level.
Since the inception of
National Sales Network in June 1992, the organization has experienced
explosive growth. Chapters have been established in Newark, New York,
Chicago, Philadelphia, Washington DC, Boston, Atlanta, Detroit, Charlotte,
Houston and Dallas. In September of 1996 the organization conducted its
first national conference in Somerset, NJ. Since that time conferences
have been conducted in Chicago (1997), Philadelphia (1998), Washington DC
(1999), Atlanta (2000), Houston (2002), Detroit (2003).
Conference attendance has
grown significantly over the years and the NSN conference has become the
premiere event of the year for African-American sales professionals to
attend. The conference has featured such speakers as George Fraser, Susan
Taylor, Tony Brown, Dennis Kimbro and Ed Gordon. The conference job fair
has grown to include over 25 companies that have provided major career
opportunities to the NSN membership.
In summary, NSN was formed
to fill the void created by the lack of a professional organization
designed to specifically for the African-American sales and sales
management professional. The original purpose of the organization was and
still is to enhance the skill development of sales and sales management
professionals while providing a forum for networking within the
profession.
